The House

In 1830 or thereabouts, an ambitious local builder hoped to turn Instow into a fashionable watering place and built some baths over a spring he found in the area. Bath House probably started its life as a lodging house to the “Baths at Instow”. Bath House, being from the regency period, is elegant and has well proportioned rooms. Large, shuttered windows overlook Instow sands and views over the estuary towards Appledore and Westwood Ho!. The upper part of the house has been turned into a self-contained flat and is rented out to a young couple. The ground floor and basement has been turned into an elegant apartment which sleeps up to 10 (in 5 bedrooms) and is rented out throughout the year. House The Village

The pretty fishing village of Instow lies between Barnstaple and Bideford at the mouth of the estuary where the rivers Taw and Torridge meet. It has a long sandy beach, which never gets very crowded, even during the summer months. There is a well-stocked village shop (hot croissants for breakfast), North Devon Cricket Club (one of the most beautiful sights in England), the North Devon Yacht Club which hosts the annual regatta, various pubs and some good restaurants. There is only one hotel (The Commodore) and a few guesthouses.
